For the past 90 years in Visakhapatnam, the four Generations of our family have dedicated ourselves, to preserve and propagate our Indian Culture.
According to my opinion, the four ways of “Purushaardhamulu” (ways of a Complete Human Life), namely, “Dharma” (to fulfil our human Duties), “Ardha” (to study the ways of rightful living), “Kaama” (to conceive and mould our children as professionals/scholars/followers to contribute to our world), “Moksha” (to achieve the Divine through salvation) have to be followed religiously by an individual to have an accomplished Life. Thereby, the world would be a better place to live in. One would also be recognised as a “rightful individual”, high in the society. This is the essence of Indian Culture, also imbibed in any form of Indian Classical dance.
On the other hand, through certain methods, Indian Classical Dances also deliver human enjoyment through mental relaxation, aesthetically by gathering various people with various psychological disorders (may it be from anxiety to severe depression), at one place like in an auditorium, and later transform them into relaxed and energised souls.
One may call it as a ‘bad-fate’ or one may call it as the ‘effect’ of Kali Yuga (the current, fourth division of time period in which we live, according to the Hindu culture), certain social elements are driving innocent human minds into instable characters in the name of competitions that are unhealthy among the peer group, with a selfish aim to earn stupendous amounts of wealth.
With the passage of time, our cultural system grew from the Temple Culture to the Auditorium Culture. According to me, the art form has to be like a psychological treatment and the auditorium has to be like a psychological clinic. With this reason, I always quote that an artiste is a psychiatrist. But at no cost should a tradition promote unhealthy principles. These were the principles that our ancestors believed and followed strictly, for the betterment of our Indian Culture and society, to be followed by their future generations.
True artistes have to be those who would promote social wellbeing. They should never serve the tradition through ego, jealousy, etc. In my opinion, people with such negative qualities are unfit for this tradition because any art form has to be as a medium that propagates divinity and that, that imparts humanity through knowledge. True artistes deliver discourses of wisdom, full of aspects such as traditional, scientifical, and human values. Through the method of art, this was what our ancestors like Sri Tyaagaraaja Swami, Sri Annamaachaarya, etc. followed.
While a wise artiste strives for the propagation of pure knowledge, an illiterate artiste aims at abusing the former, with selfishness, ego, jealousy, etc. He would always be in an illusion that his creations are in the right manner. He would be even more proud for all the positive feedback that he would receive from the ignorant audience (who have no proper knowledge on the subject). He might earn quite a sum of money, but when scholars review the performance, it would be clearly evident that it is of no use to the society at all and at the same time, there would also be quite a loss that would incur to the society by watching such meaningless performances. It is our mission to state many such moral examples to our students to make them into good responsible artistes and good citizens.
It is so unfortunate and saddening to know that the academy, with a great history and with views of very high standards, has no dedicated land for its sustenance for future generations. The sole reason for this could be that for all these years, the institution has been completely dedicated to train its students to the fullest to make them future cultural ambassadors. It is of immense pleasure to know that all our old students are well settled all over the world in various positions in this art form. But it is now time to have a dedicated land through which such quality training can be imparted to the future generations.
There have been many students who, having completed around 5 years and above, have been discontinuing dance due to various financial difficulties. By this, India is losing such dedicated talents. I feel very sad to this scenario. From my end, I can contribute my services to mould them through free training, in terms of delivering academic excellence to them. For this, we will have to dedicate ourselves to their timings that are subject to their availability. Henceforth, we have planned to introduce a full time availability and functionality of our academy (from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM). But in order for this to happen, there is cost involved for the academy to function in TWO SHIFTS, with regards to staffs’ salary, building rent, power, other maintenance expenditures, etc. It is of my hope, that kind hearted people like you would come forward and contribute the monthly fee directly to our academy on behalf of such poor students and also to the students of very talented and financially affected. And in return, on student’s name, we send you the training fee receipt of our academy directly to you through e-mail, if you wish so. The academy will select the eligible students who are fit to learn this art form and finally we will give the admissions to the eligible candidates. This complete process will subject to the availably of the Donors. Due to security reasons, we cannot furnish the full details of our female students (Photo, date of birth, address proof, etc.). With prior intimation, you can visit our academy to see our recipients through an appointment if you wish. This will happen in the presence of the management of our academy. But no personal, individual meeting with the female students will be arranged by any means.
I welcome all my disciples, relatives, friends and well wishers from all over the world to join hands with me. I would also request you to strongly insist your near and dear for their valuable contributions, to help me mould them into full fledged talented artistes and contribute them to the society. I believe this would be a wonderful way for you to serve the humanity with pure heart, by aiding them, to gain knowledge through this sacred, ancient art form which in turn would be a service to The Divinity.

A Special Request to Donors:
It is a common practice to think twice before we donate to a specific Individual, an Organisation, or a Temple as we expect the funds to be utilised in a right manner. This cannot be adjudged as a wrong thought. But, even after knowing well about a popular Icon or an Institution that has a great history, it not rightful to pester the recipient of donations by asking numerous questions and doubts, wasting our valuable academic, productive and administrative time. It is of our request for all wise donors to think of the same before coming forward to donate. It is of my special request for all doubtful donors, as described above, not to come forward with their donations.
We have placed all the information about us in front of you, through this website that showcases our vast experience, talent, etc. through various videos, data and photo gallery. After going through this information, it’s your final decision to decide if you want to go ahead and be our donor or not.
“Your right decision makes our mission stronger and leads our world to prosperity”.
Thank you one and all.
With Regards,
Guru P. V. Bharani Shenkar.
